Welcome to our luxury 4 bedroom apartment Chamois. Set in the centre of the Sainte-Foy Resort in the Tarentaise Valley. Sainte-Foy is very close to the famous resorts of Tinges, Val D’Isere and Les Arc, yet it is retains the charm of a small traditionally built alpine village and boasts its own extensive ski area that is never crowded. |

An omelet at Les Brevettes ! |

Sainte-Foy is an old hamlet that you drive through on the road up from Bourg-St-Maurice to Tignes and Val d’Isere. Just above it, reached by a side road, is a raw and exciting ski resort of the same name. The locals come to Sainte-Foy to enjoy untracked powder and get away from the crowds at peak times. The resort is also an excellent location for freeriders looking for natural drops and walls. One reporter remarked: ‘the piste map is a complete smokescreen: it gives no indication of the hugeness of the off-piste terrain’. A guide is essential for enjoying the full off-piste potential, which includes forays into the Italian Aosta and Valgrishenche valleys. Sainte-Foy’s proximity to the frontier means it is one of the few resorts in France that can offer heli-skiing. Two outstanding itineries are the Face Nord de Foliet and the Coulor Dudu, the latter 800m chute renowned for its spring powder. Both these runs go through the hamlet of Le Crot before ending in Le Mirior, with its rustic eastery Chez Marie (‘a locals’ fiercely guarded secret’). Sainte-Foy has a well equipped terrain park on the edge of Crete-Serru piste. The local ESF has a sound reputation, plus P’tits Trappeurs crèche is situated in the base area. Three chair lifts take you up to the Col de l’Aiguille and the starting point for a 1100m vertical of challenging piste and some dramatic powder descents. There are a few simple but atmospheric mountain eating-places. Les Brevettes, at the top of the first chair, is praised for its omelettes, and neighbouring Chez Leon ‘has to be booked’. Reporters continue to praise the British-owned Auberge sur la Montagne (tel +33 479 06 95 83) in the neighbouring La Thuile: ‘this is really a gem of a place with heaps of mountain character’ The food is gargantuan and utterly delicious’. |
